Amid rising tensions along the Lebanese-Syrian border and the circulation of a social media video showing some Syrian clans issuing threats to infiltrate into Lebanon with a 48-hour deadline to meet their demands, serious security and political concerns have arisen in Lebanon. The video has sparked public anxiety, with fears that any miscalculated escalation could threaten national stability.
In this context, Sheikh Badr Obeid, head of the Arab Clans Assembly in Lebanon, issued a clear and unequivocal denial via kataeb.org, setting the record straight. In an exclusive interview with our website, Sheikh Obeid affirmed that the circulating claims are baseless and that the Arab clans in Lebanon fully respect both the law and the State.
Obeid emphasized that reports suggesting the clans intend to breach Lebanon’s borders or take unlawful action to secure the release of Syrian detainees in Roumieh prison are entirely false, and are merely rumors aimed at sowing chaos and undermining security.
“The Lebanese clans, with deep historical ties to our brothers in Syria, Iraq, and the Arabian Peninsula, do not act independently of the State and its legitimate institutions,” he said. “We respect the decisions of the Lebanese government, adhere to the law, and support the Lebanese army as well as the government under PM Nawaf Salam, which represents the highest authority on these matters.”
Regarding the video that sparked controversy, Sheikh Obeid explained that the intense reaction it captured was a purely human response following the recent death of Syrian prisoner Osama Al-Jaour in Roumieh prison. He clarified that Al-Jaour had been detained for political, not criminal, reasons, which further heightened the sensitivity of the situation.
He underscored that the Arab clans rely on dialogue, diplomatic channels, and legal measures to resolve such cases, carefully avoiding any actions that could jeopardize Lebanon’s security.
Sheikh Obeid concluded with a clear humanitarian and political appeal: “We call on both the Lebanese and Syrian governments to urgently address this human rights issue. Delay and procrastination are no longer acceptable, particularly since the matter affects human dignity and the lives of thousands of families.”
These statements come at a critical and sensitive time in the region, emphasizing the importance of restraint and adherence to State authority and the rule of law. Sheikh Badr Obeid’s denial reflects the Arab clans’ commitment to stability and their determination not to be drawn into any actions or scenarios that could escalate tensions.
The only viable solution lies in political and humanitarian agreements that respect the rights of Syrian detainees while safeguarding Lebanon’s security and sovereignty. What Lebanon needs today is unity, serious dialogue, and national solidarity to ensure that its borders remain safe.
