Countering Hezbollah’s Reconstruction Politics and the Council for South Lebanon
In recent weeks, U.S. policy toward Lebanon has been narrowly focused on the process of disarming Iran-backed Hezbollah, as called for in the June trilateral framework agreement. Less attention has been paid to postwar reconstruction, another critical element of the agreement. Early indications suggest that Beirut’s current approach to this undertaking could wind up strengthening rather than marginalizing Hezbollah, since the government is apparently relying on the Council for South Lebanon (CSL)—an institution closely associated with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, the head of the Amal Party and Hezbollah’s chief political ally—to manage much of the process.

Youtube Features Captions About 9/11 Attack During Paris Fire Broadcast
A YouTube fact-check feature mistakenly tagged live broadcasts of the fire that ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, featuring details about the 9/11 terror attacks.
As live-streaming broadcast videos filled YouTube, captions from the Encyclopedia Britannica about the September 11, 2001 attack in the United States were posted beneath it.
"These panels are triggered algorithmically and our systems sometimes make the wrong call. We are deeply saddened by the ongoing fire at the Notre-Dame Cathedral,” YouTube spokesman told AFP, noting that the text box feature had been disabled for live streams related to the fire.
