Salam Vows ‘No Leniency, No Turning a Blind Eye’ in Explosives Case

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam vowed a thorough investigation into a recent explosives seizure, pledging to identify everyone involved in what he described as a criminal operation and warning that his government would not tolerate weapons held, transported or used outside the authority of the State.

In a statement posted on X, Salam said there would be “no leniency and no turning a blind eye, only the truth and accountability,” stressing that the investigation would be pursued without compromise and expanded as necessary to uncover those responsible and their objectives.

Salam's remarks followed the interception several days ago of a truck traveling from the Bekaa Valley toward Greater Beirut that was found to be carrying hundreds of kilograms of explosives, including the powerful explosive compound C-4.

The prime minister said he understood the concern among Lebanese citizens over the incident, particularly given the use of C-4 in several notorious political assassinations in Lebanon's recent history.

He began his statement by commending the security forces for intercepting the truck, seizing its cargo and referring its drivers to the relevant authorities for questioning.

“In my capacity as prime minister, I call on all Lebanese to be confident that we will not relent in pursuing the investigation and broadening its scope,” he said.

He added that the authorities would seek to establish the identities of everyone involved in the operation, determine who was behind it, and uncover their plans and objectives before referring all those responsible to the judiciary to face the punishment they deserved.

Salam also issued a broader warning against any attempts to undermine Lebanon's security, safety and stability, saying his government would take a firm stance against anyone seeking to threaten the country.

“Our government will show no tolerance toward anyone who seeks to tamper with the country's security, safety and stability,” he said, adding that the government would act with the necessary firmness against any weapons held, transported or used outside the framework of legitimate state authority.
