Salam to Launch Government Formation Consultations Tomorrow

Prime Minister-Designate Nawaf Salam will begin consultations with parliamentary blocs on Wednesday and Thursday at the Parliament, marking the first step in his efforts to form a new government, NBN channel reported.

These consultations are a critical step in Lebanon’s government formation process, during which the prime minister-designate engages with parliamentary blocs and independent MPs to gather their views on government priorities and potential ministerial appointments. The discussions aim to facilitate a consensus on the government’s structure, policy direction, and the allocation of ministerial portfolios.

In Lebanon’s sectarian power-sharing system, the prime minister-designate is tasked with forming a government after being nominated by Members of Parliament during binding consultations led by the president. Once designated, the prime minister undertakes non-binding consultations with parliamentary blocs to assess their preferences and proposals before drafting a cabinet lineup.
