Salam From Dar-al-Fatwa: We May Be Facing a Painful War, We Are Prepared for All Scenarios

After meeting with the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, at Dar al-Fatwa, Caretaker Minister of Economy Amin Salam, pointed out, "Given the ongoing conflict on our southern borders and the continuous updates to the 'Emergency Plan' provisions, we briefed the Mufti on our accomplishments, particularly regarding the Ministry of Economy. Our visit aimed to update him on Lebanon's economic situation in the event of the war expanding into a 'comprehensive war,' with potential repercussions reaching Beirut and its surroundings should the situation escalate. Consequently, we must be prepared for all possible scenarios."

Salam revealed that Derian provided assurance that sufficient quantities of wheat, crucial for both the impoverished and affluent, are available for a significant period.

He also affirmed that fuel supplies are ample for several months as long as our regional waters remain open for imports without complications.

He further remarked: "Some may argue that these concerns have diminished over the past month since the war's commencement, suggesting the threat to Lebanon is not as severe as initially perceived. Nevertheless, we emphasize that we can never fully trust this enemy, and it remains our duty to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances as if they might arise tomorrow."

"This responsibility is paramount to us, accountable to the Lebanese people after relying on God Almighty. It is essential to recognize that the situation in southern Lebanon constitutes a war in every sense. Citizens there face severe targeting from the Israeli enemy. While some may categorize these events as 'limited geographical skirmishes,' it unequivocally signifies a state of war. Every inch of Lebanon demands our attention, from the authorities, government, and security agencies. Thus, our commitment extends to standing by our citizens, regardless of their location within the country, be it in the farthest northern or southern regions," he went saying.

In a recent press conference, Salam disclosed the available stock of goods to alleviate citizen concerns, stating: "The sectors participating in today's meeting maintain warehouses in various regions, central storage facilities, and sufficient quantities of goods to sustain us for several months. Even without resorting to additional stockpiling, our inventory of consumable goods and foodstuffs is adequate for a period ranging from two to three months."
