Salam Convenes Ministers as Government Vows to Uphold State Authority

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam convened a consultative ministerial meeting at the Grand Serail on Friday after Hezbollah defied a government ban and projected images of its late leaders onto Beirut’s Rawshe Rock, with ministers vowing to uphold state sovereignty and enforce the law equally.

Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri, speaking after the meeting, affirmed the government was united behind Salam and committed to the principles outlined in its ministerial statement.

“The Lebanese State must assert its sovereignty, through its own institutions, across all of its territory,” Mitri said. “The law applies equally to all citizens without exception. All Lebanese are equal before the law, and the State does not favor one person or group over another.”

Mitri condemned Hezbollah's defiant action as “a clear violation of the permit” granted for the gathering, saying the government would take the necessary legal measures “to safeguard the authority of the state and ensure its decisions are respected.” He stressed that the cabinet remained committed to maintaining stability and unity, and to “putting an end to hate campaigns that threaten national coexistence.”
