Italy will host a new round of U.S.-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel in Rome on August 4, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced, describing the move as a significant diplomatic achievement aimed at advancing dialogue between the two sides.

Tajani made the announcement during a briefing before Italy’s Parliament on the outcome of the NATO summit in Ankara, saying that Rome would once again serve as the venue for negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.

“This is an important achievement, the result of patient foreign policy efforts that build bridges and never erect walls,” Tajani said.

The previous round of negotiations was held in Rome on July 14 and 15. Following those discussions, Lebanon and Israel agreed to establish so-called “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon as part of efforts to advance security arrangements on the ground.
