Report: Iran Pushes Hezbollah Toward Ceasefire Amid U.S. Mediation Efforts

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is reportedly pressuring Hezbollah to agree to a ceasefire with Israel, as U.S. mediator is set to visit Beirut this week to discuss a resolution.

According to two Iranian sources affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Khamenei, conveyed messages to Hezbollah on Friday supporting an end to the ongoing hostilities.

The sources told The New York Times that Khamenei instructed Hezbollah to accept terms requiring the group to withdraw its forces northward, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. The resolution, adopted in 2006, aims to establish peace in southern Lebanon following the Lebanon-Israel war that year.

The messages also reportedly assured Hezbollah of continued financial and military backing from Iran to aid in recovery and reconstruction efforts following the conflict.
