Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday cast doubt over the reason behind the death of former Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi, saying that the latter was “killed” as Egyptian authorities failed to save him.
"Morsi was struggling on the floor in the courtroom for 20 minutes. Authorities unfortunately did not intervene to save him," Erdogan said in a televised speech in Istanbul.
"Morsi was killed, he did not die of natural causes,” he added, saying that he will bring up the issue at the G-20 summit set to take place at the end of the month in Japan.
Erdogan stressed that he will exert utmost effort to guarantee the Egyptian government is tried in international courts for Morsi's death, calling on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take action.
