Seven Iranian and Iranian-backed fighters were killed and others were injured in Israeli airstrikes that targeted weapons depots near Aleppo airport on Wednesday night, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The Syrian army said on Wednesday that it had intercepted several missiles that were fired by Israeli jets during strikes on an industrial zone north of Aleppo.
“Army air defenses repelled an Israeli aggression that targeted some sites in Sheikh Najjar industrial zone, north-east of Aleppo and downed several hostile missiles,” the state-run SANA news agency said.
Reuters quoted two opposition sources familiar with Tehran's military presence in the area as saying that large ammunitions depot and a logistics hub that belonged to Iranian-backed militias inside the industrial zone received direct hits.
Other strikes hit the vicinity of Nairab military airport on the outskirts of Aleppo in the second such strike on the installation used by Iranian troops in less than a year, they added.
