U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham on Monday pledged to work on his country's recognition of Golan Heights as part of the Israeli territory, saying that he would speak with President Donald Trump about this issue.
“There is no construct I can imagine now or any time in the future for the state of Israel to give the Golan up,” Graham said during a tour of the frontier with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"It is inconceivable that Israel could ever give it to anyone given the threats Israel faces," he stated.
Syria's Foreign Ministry blasted Graham's statement as "arrogant", saying that Israeli occupation of the Goland Heights will eventually end.
The United Nations consider the Golan Heights to be Syrian occupied lands, the ministry's statement noted.
It also pledged that residents will continue their struggle until their land is liberated.
Captured from Syria during the 1967 Middle East War, the Golan Heights have been annexed to Israel since 1981 amid global divergences.
