Israeli Occupation and an Armed Hezbollah Are Not Sustainable for Lebanon
Lebanon’s government is facing mounting challenges. It is trying to balance the demands of the US to disarm Hezbollah, a militia and political party controlling much of the country, against those of Iran, Hezbollah’s main sponsor, to do no such thing. For a government that took power only recently after years of political vacuum, as well as for the country as a whole, this is a critical test of sovereignty.

The Lebanese government’s decision last Thursday to endorse the objectives of a US-drafted plan provoked a negative response from Hezbollah and, to an extent, its ally within the Shiite community, the Amal Movement. Rebels Storm Iran’s Embassy as Damascus Falls from Regime Control
Syrian rebels stormed the Iranian embassy in Damascus following their seizure of the Syrian capital, according to a report by Iran’s English-language Press TV.
Footage circulating on social media shows a crowd defacing a banner that bore images of prominent figures linked to Iran’s regional strategy: Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, and Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of Iran's Quds Force, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in 2020.
