Rahi: We Pray for the Election of a President, the Implementation of Awaited Reforms

Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi expressed his hope that this Christmas would usher in a spiritual revolution in the lives of individuals.

"In today's world, characterized by pride and self-reliance, such a transformation is deemed crucial to address ongoing tragedies marked by corruption, injustice, wars, tyranny, and the manipulation of the fates of nations, peoples, cultures, and history," al-Rahi said during his Christmas sermon.

The Patriarch underscored that the birth of Christ initiated a new era for humanity, emphasizing values of justice, peace, and brotherhood among all people.

"We regret that the internal revolution did not happen on the level of our nation, Lebanon, and we were waiting for a transformation in the souls of the nation's deputies and their blocs to elect a competent, non-corrupt, free president, devoid of any personal or sectarian interest," he noted.

"We expected a Christmas and New Year's gift from MPs, but there won't be any gifts as no one can give what they don't possess," he went on saying.

He considered the "bankruptcy of the National Social Security Fund a serious warning".

"It is regrettable that this situation is absent from the political and parliamentary discourse," he indicated.

"We raise this cry to the officials, especially the government and the executive authority. We pray for the election of a president and the implementation of awaited reforms, to lift the social security system from its well-known obstacles. If nothing is done from these three aspects, the hemorrhage of emigration at the individual and institutional levels will worsen," he concluded.
