Rahi Endorses Riyadh Summit Statement, Opposes Lebanon's Presidential Vacancy

Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi affirmed that the Church cannot stand idly by in the face of the negligence of those responsible for ensuring the public interest.

"We refuse to subject the presidential elections to a specific person, group, or project. We reject remaining without a president while the state disintegrates, the people beg, our vital forces emigrate, and the constitution is violated," Rahi said during his Sunday's sermon.

"We once again condemn the monstrous genocide in Gaza, where the number of victims has exceeded 11,000, with nearly half of them being children," he noted.

"We condemn the programmed destruction of homes, schools, churches, hospitals, and mosques with the aim of expelling Palestinians from their land," the Patriarch went on saying.

He considered that this inhumane and spiritless war and the blockade preventing the arrival of water and medicine as a disgrace on the forehead of this generation.

"The leaders of this war are at fault, and we declare once again our solidarity with the Palestinians," he noted.

Rahi asserted that the only solution is the establishment of two states.
