Qlayaa Parish Priest Dies After Militants Draw Israeli Tank Fire in Southern Village

An Israeli tank fired twice at a house in the southern Lebanese town of Qlayaa, wounding several civilians and a parish priest who later died from his injuries, according to local reports.

The house was hit in two successive rounds of shelling from an Israeli Merkava tank, injuring the homeowner, Clovis Boutros, and his wife. Both were taken to Marjayoun Governmental Hospital by teams from the Lebanese Red Cross and Lebanon’s Civil Defense.

During the second strike, the town’s parish priest, Father Pierre al-Rahi, was also wounded, along with Elias Boulos, Paul Fares and Lillian El-Sayed. Lebanese Red Cross teams transported the injured to hospitals for treatment.

Father al-Rahi later succumbed to his wounds.

According to information reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), armed militants had entered the Qlayaa–Marjayoun area as well as the nearby villages of Rmeish, Debel and Ain Ebel, exposing these previously safe communities to danger.
