President Michel Sleiman stated in a press release:

"The outcome of yesterday, Wednesday, January 8, 2025, can be summarized as follows: Diplomatic efforts intensified alongside movements by parliamentary blocs and independent MPs, with several parties declaring their support for the election of General Joseph Aoun. Meanwhile, other blocs have yet to announce their positions."

He added: "What matters most is the triumph of democracy and the initiation of a process to rebuild constitutional institutions, coupled with the continuation of Israel’s withdrawal in accordance with the ceasefire agreement. Above all, it is crucial that military adventures, under any pretext, become a thing of the past."

He concluded: "While reconstruction is indeed a priority, it risks depriving institutions and administrations of the opportunity to catch up with the progress Lebanon has missed for many years—a progress witnessed globally and even in some Arab countries."
