Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Lebanon must avoid involvement in regional conflicts that do not directly concern the country, saying such entanglements threaten national security and economic recovery.
“We must safeguard ourselves by uniting around the Lebanese State and avoiding entanglement in conflicts that do not concern us,” he said at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
The premier stressed that the restoration of State sovereignty and ongoing reforms are inseparable from Lebanon’s stability.
“Sovereignty means reclaiming authority over war and peace, extending State control across all Lebanese territory, and confining weapons. Reform ensures financial and administrative stability. Together, they restore confidence in Lebanon," he stated.
Salam highlighted recent security achievements, noting that for the first time since 1969, the Lebanese state—through its army—has established full operational control over southern Lebanon. He cautioned against drawing Lebanon anew into regional conflicts, citing the heavy toll of the recent Gaza escalation.
The prime minister also emphasized strengthening public institutions as a key component of stability.
“Revitalizing Lebanese institutions increases security for citizens and confidence among Arab partners and expatriates, which is essential for attracting investment,” he said.
Salam concluded by calling on Arab partners to support Lebanon in building its internal capabilities, rather than replacing them, and invited them to participate in a forthcoming Paris conference to bolster the Lebanese Armed Forces.
