PM Requests EDL to Enforce Equitable Power Supply, Demands Clarity

The Grand Serail sent an open formal letter to Electricité du Liban (EDL) and the Energy Ministry on Friday, demanding a more equitable electricity supply between all regions following widespread complaints from citizens.

The letter, issued by Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s office, highlighted the daily complaints received about the disproportionate supply hours, urging EDL and the Energy Ministry to issue a statement clarifying how electricity from power plants is being distributed among all Lebanese regions.

The letter requested a detailed breakdown of the supply hours allocated to each area, demanding that both EDL and the ministry identify any existing distribution gaps and take immediate steps to address them.

Moreover, the letter demanded that EDL provide a comprehensive schedule of electricity supply hours for critical public institutions, notably the airport, port, water pumps, and sewage facilities, along with the specific amounts being supplied to these facilities.

This measure aims to ensure that vital infrastructure remains operational despite the ongoing electricity crisis, the letter pointed out.
