Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a firm condemnation of an Israeli airstrike on the southern town of Khiam, which led to casualties and injuries.
In his statement, Mikati pointed out that the attack took place less than 24 hours after the Lebanese Army had started deploying in the Khiam and Marjaayoun regions to enforce the newly agreed-upon ceasefire.
He characterized the strike as a flagrant violation of the ceasefire and a breach of the commitments made by the United States and France, the mediators of the agreement. Mikati urged these countries to clarify their position on the incident and take swift action to curb Israeli aggression.
He further emphasized that the ongoing violations should be addressed by the monitoring committee responsible for overseeing the ceasefire’s implementation and that they must act decisively to prevent further incidents.
