Netanyahu Urges Lebanese Government to Disarm Hezbollah, Threatens Action if Needed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Hezbollah continues to suffer “constant blows,” including in recent days, warning that the group is simultaneously attempting to “rearm and recover.”

Speaking at the weekly meeting of the Israeli cabinet, Netanyahu called on the Lebanese government to fulfill its commitment to disarm the militant group.

“We expect the government of Lebanon to do what it pledged to do: disarm the group,” he said.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel would continue to exercise its right to “self-defense as defined by the terms of the ceasefire,” cautioning that his government “will not allow Lebanon to become a new front against us” and “will act as necessary.”

“It is clear that we will exercise our right to self-defense as stipulated in the ceasefire terms. We will not allow Lebanon to become a renewed front against us, and we shall take whatever action is required.”
