Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue destroying Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon and removing what he called threats to Israel, after Israeli forces took control of the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge.

“We have achieved another huge victory over Hezbollah,” Netanyahu said in a video statement on Monday. “We destroyed its great terror stronghold on the Beaufort ridge and the Ali Taher ridge.”

“Our policy is clear — we will continue to destroy terror infrastructure in the security zone in Lebanon,” Netanyahu said. “We will continue to remove any threat to Israel.”

Netanyahu also renewed his warning to Israel’s enemies against launching further attacks.

“If you haven’t learned the lesson by now, and you decide to attack us again, you will absorb even heavier blows,” he said. “There is more work to complete, and with God’s help we will complete it.”

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Sunday had threatened to “eliminate” anyone approaching the Ali al-Taher ridge, saying the military was preparing to take control of the area and prevent Hezbollah or any other group from establishing a presence there.

Katz said Israeli forces had killed Hezbollah fighters and destroyed tunnels in the area. He said the military would prevent the group or any other party from returning to the ridge.

The strategic ridge will now form part of what Israel calls its “Yellow Line” and security zone inside Lebanon, Katz said. Israel has described the self-declared security zone as covering about 700 square kilometers (270 square miles) of Lebanese territory.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu and I have repeatedly made clear that we will not leave the security belt, and that the army will not withdraw or redeploy until Hezbollah is disarmed throughout Lebanon,” Katz said.

Katz also said Israel would not withdraw or redeploy from the area until Hezbollah was disarmed across Lebanon.
