Mikati Meets Sisi in Egypt

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati this afternoon at Al- Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.

During the meeting, Mikati expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s constant standing by Lebanon and its support for it at all levels.

“Egypt, which always carries the concerns of the Arab world, is making a great effort to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza and stop the massacres committed against the Palestinians," he said.

"We support the Egyptian President’s position of refusing to displace the Palestinians from their land, and his endeavor to find a solution that begins with a ceasefire and the protection of civilians, and subsequently work to find a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue that preserves the rights of the Palestinians to their land and their independent state," he added.

Mikati arrived in Egypt before noon, and was received at Cairo Airport by Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah El-Din.

Prior to his visit to Egypt, Mikati held a meeting with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in the Jordanian capital, Amman, this morning, in which Lebanese Ambassador to Jordan Youssef Emil Raji, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf, and Deputy Chief of Staff of the State Department Tom Sullivan participated.

During the meeting, Mikati stressed the priority of working to reach a ceasefire in Gaza to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression there, as well as working to stop the Israeli aggression against southern Lebanon and the scorched earth policy followed by Israel using internationally banned weapons to continue causing more human losses and destroying the southern areas and towns.

“Lebanon, which is committed to international legitimacy and the implementation of International Resolution 1701 in coordination with UNIFIL," he stressed.

He also called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop the daily Israeli encroachments and violations on its land and sovereignty on land, sea and air.
