McDonald’s Experiences Widespread System Outage Across Asia

McDonald’s Corp. is experiencing a system outage in several parts of the Asia-Pacific that’s left customers unable to order at its stores, as well as from electronic kiosks and mobile apps.

A computer system failure caused the issue and customers are advised to order from staff at store counters, the fast-food giant said in a statement on its Hong Kong website Friday.

A spokesperson for the company in Japan said they’re unsure on how long the problem will last, while restaurants in Taiwan suspended phone and online ordering due to system maintenance, according to a statement.

The issue is rippling further across the region, according to media reports. The Hong Kong Economic Times said that operations in parts of mainland China were also affected and “McDonald’s crashed” has become one of the top trending topics on social media platform Weibo.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Herald reported stores were unable to take orders and Australian broadcaster 7News said restaurants nationwide had been impacted.
