Maronite Patriarch: Electing a President is Key to Building a New Lebanon

Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi met with a delegation from the Lady of the Mountain Gathering, highlighting the critical importance of adhering to Lebanon's Constitution and the Taif Agreement to restore stability and achieve future development.

During the meeting, Patriarch al-Rahi emphasized the Constitution's pivotal role, describing it as "the backbone of Lebanon." He cautioned that any violation of the Constitution could bring the country to a standstill.

"The Constitution and the Taif Agreement complement each other," he stated. "This is why we demand their full implementation, both in letter and spirit. Those who oppose the Taif Agreement do so because it conflicts with their personal interests."

The Patriarch expressed hope for a swift resolution to Lebanon's political deadlock, urging the election of a new president on January 9. This, he argued, would pave the way for a comprehensive reconstruction effort and ensure the full application of both the Constitution and the Taif Agreement.

"Only then can we begin building a new Lebanon," he stressed.
