Man Found Dead in Akkar, Syrian Refugee Camp Burned in Retaliation

Residents of the village of Tal Hayat in Akkar (North Lebanon) burned tents in a Syrian refugee camp located in this locality on Sunday in retaliation for the death of one of their relatives, whose body had been found the day before in a coastal area near the Koleiat air base, our correspondent in the region reported.

The victim, who was reported missing Friday, was found Saturday by security forces, who ordered an investigation to be opened under the supervision of the competent judiciary.

The victim's body was transferred to the Halba government hospital by the Lebanese Red Cross, to be examined by a medical examiner. The cause of death is still unknown, and no arrests have been made so far.

In retaliation, family members of the deceased Sunday burned tents at a Syrian refugee camp in the village of Talhayat, believing that a resident of the camp was responsible for the death. The Lebanese Army arrived on the scene to try to contain the situation, and the Civil Defense is expected to put out the fires.
