Rahi Stresses Need to Hold Parliamentary Elections on Time

Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi on Sunday affirmed that it is unacceptable for some to take the latest facts as an excuse to promote the postponement of the parliamentary elections.

"The upcoming elections are a deadline to strengthen the system and allow people to express their views and demand accountability through accountability. This time, it is an opportunity to choose the next destination in Lebanon. The elected parliament elects the new President of the Republic, who will initiate reforms and participate in a national dialogue to be held after the emergence of the new authority under international auspices," he said.

Rahi expressed his hope that politicians and officials would be able to conduct a free, fair and clear dialogue with the desire to reach the objective truth that unites and treats Lebanon from its political, economic, financial, social, living and security crises.

"Efforts must be exerted by the forces that fight and reject the fait accompli, domination, prejudice and aggression against brotherly and friendly countries, while demanding the implementation of international resolutions," he noted.

"Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, a man of moderation, surprised us with his decision and raised concern and protest against a national social segment, an essential partner of the national partnership," he added.

Rahi called on the authorities to control the borders instead of imposing new high taxes and fees on citizens.
