Hankache: The State Must Have Taken Proactive Measures

Resigned kataeb lawmaker Elias Hankache on Friday deemed the escalation of tensions that occurred yesterday in Al-Tayyouneh as unacceptable.

“The visit of the Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel yesterday to Ain el Remmaneh was totally normal. He was touring a number of streets in the area to ensure the safety of the residents,” Hankache said in an interview with Al-Jadeed.

“The violence and the killing that occurred yesterday in Beirut are unjustified and the state must have taken proactive measures to prevent any violence.Yesterday was a big loss for everyone especially for the Lebanese people” he stressed.

“The Lebanese army must rule with an iron fist in this historic moment,” he added.

“All of us have witnessed the political escalation of amal movement and Hezbollah’s leaders 4 days ago,” he pointed out.

Hankache affirmed that justice will be achieved since Judge Bitar is the one investigating in the Beirut port blast; hoping that he won’t be affected by all the threats made against him.

“The government and the President are both in trouble. This government has proved that it is not a government of specialists. We also might witness the suspenson of the government or the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Mikati” he concluded.
