Jumblat Says He Refused Meeting with Hezbollah Official

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat revealed that a meeting with a senior Hezbollah official was canceled after the latter had insisted on holding it in the party's turf in Haret Hreik.

Jumblat told Al-Joumhouria newspaper that Hezbollah leader's political aide, Hussein Khalil, was set to meet with him, but later canceled the visit after the PSP-affiliated Industry Minister Wael Abu Faour had revoked the license of a cement factory in Aley's Ain Dara.

It was Abu Faour's predecessor, Hezbollah-affiliated Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan, the one who granted the license to Lebanese businessman Pierre Fattoush who wanted to establish the factory despite the controversy it stirred for environmental reasons.

Jumblat and Khalil agreed to meet again, but the latter insisted on meeting the PSP leader in Haret Hreik; a condition that Jumblat rejected.

"Hezbollah should take the initiative to visit us this time," he said.
