Lebanon to Reconstruct Beirut Port

Caretaker Minister of Public Works Ali Hamieh held an agreement with the World Bank to secure funding for the reconstruction of Beirut Port’s damaged sections.

"Some countries' proposals to reconstruct Beirut Port after the August 4 explosion wasn’t serious," Hamieh said in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat.

"Although the increase in the port revenues may allow self-reconstruction, we ultimately need companies' investment," he added.

"The reconstruction process will be accompanied by determining if the port will remain for internal consumption after the major geopolitical changes in the region," he pointed out, noting that a part of his land will be exclusively preserved for logistics services for oil and gas exploration activities.
