Lebanon Prepares for Possible Israel Talks as Berri Clings to the Mechanism

Lebanon is preparing for the possibility of negotiations with Israel through Cypriot mediation, although there has been no official confirmation from Israel so far, according to a report by Al Jadeed.

The report said Beirut expects to receive Israel’s response within the coming hours as preparations continue for a potential round of talks.

According to the same report, a Lebanese delegation expected to travel to Cyprus in preparation for possible negotiations would include Paul Salem and the secretary-general of the Foreign Ministry, Abdel Sattar Issa.

The delegation is also expected to include a Druze representative, although the identity of that figure has not yet been finalized. The choice is reportedly between Halim Abu Fakhreddine and Shawki Abu Nasr.

Meanwhile, Speaker Nabih Berri has reportedly opposed the inclusion of a Shiite representative in the delegation, maintaining that negotiations should remain within the framework of the “mechanism committee” responsible for managing the process until a ceasefire is reached.
