The Consultative Meeting for the Arab Foreign Ministers on Saturday has taken off in Beirut with talks featuring high on joint Arab cooperation.
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, arrived yesterday in Beirut to participate in the said meeting.
“All 21 member states of the Arab League will participate in this meeting, except Syria whose membership has been suspended,” he said upon his arrival.
“This meeting comes at a very critical time, and I hope that the issues to be raised will achieve Arab interaction and agreement on steps for the future,” he added.
The Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib said that this routine meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled in Algeria next November.
"It has no specific agenda; however, it provides Arab Foreign ministers with a platform to discuss issues pertaining to the Arab region,"he added.
