The pager and walkie-talkie blasts across Lebanon "clearly violated international human rights law and international humanitarian law," the chief spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights indicated.
Speaking to Sky News, Ravina Shamdasani noted that the "utterly horrific" attack was "indiscriminate".
"The simultaneous targeting of thousands of individuals, without clear understanding of where they would be, what they were surrounded by when these devices were detonated, violates international law," she pointed out.
The attack "could lead to an even broader conflict," she added, saying: "Really all we need is de-escalation. We need a ceasefire in Gaza. We need the situation in the West Bank to be brought under control. Now what we are fearing is that the regional spill-over that we've been warning about for a long time is about to happen."
"There's a lot of misinformation spreading about how these were precision attacks and precision targets, which implies that this is okay. This is not okay. This is a violation of international law," she concluded.
