Lebanese Interest in Arab Summit

With carefully chosen expressions, the Jeddah Declaration outlined the Arab position, which was approved by the 32nd Arab Summit that concluded its proceedings in Jeddah, KSA, last night. It provided a roadmap to end the crisis as well as the presidential vacuum.

Item number 5 explicitly states, "We express our solidarity with Lebanon and urge all Lebanese parties to engage in dialogue to elect a president who meets Lebanese citizens' aspirations, ensures the functioning of constitutional institutions, and adopts the necessary reforms to help Lebanon overcome its crisis."

Informed political sources informed Al Liwaa that it was expected that the Jeddah Summit statement would not contain vague headlines concerning the presidential file and that the focus would be on expediting presidential elections and government formation.
