Lebanese Government’s Draft Statement Signals Shift on Sovereignty and State Authority

Lebanon’s draft ministerial statement underscores the state’s full responsibility for national security and the government’s commitment to its international obligations, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 1701, without omission or modification, according to a report by MTV.

The draft also reaffirms Lebanon’s adherence to the Armistice Agreement and the ceasefire agreement.

The document outlines measures aimed at securing Lebanon’s sovereignty, including "taking all necessary steps to liberate occupied land, extending the state's authority across its entire territory through its own capabilities, upholding Lebanon’s right to self-defense, and ensuring the state’s exclusive control over weapons, in line with the presidential oath."

Additionally, the draft calls for the implementation of President Joseph Aoun's inaugural speech and the development of a comprehensive defense policy. This policy would be integrated into a broader national security strategy covering diplomatic, economic, and military aspects.
