Lebanese Army Rejects Israeli Claims of Failure to Disarm Hezbollah South of Litani

The Lebanese army on Tuesday rejected Israeli accusations that it had failed to disarm Hezbollah and dismantle the group’s military infrastructure south of the Litani River, saying its operations were documented by the committee overseeing the November 2024 ceasefire agreement.

The army accused Israel of spreading baseless claims to undermine its credibility and cast doubt on its ability to carry out its mission in southern Lebanon, particularly as negotiations between the two sides continue.

In a statement posted on its official X account on October 20, 2026, the army said Israel had made “baseless claims” about its operations south of the Litani River, questioning its ability to fulfill its assigned responsibilities.

The dispute centers on a military facility in Kfarra, in the Bint Jbeil district of southern Lebanon, where Israel accused the Lebanese army of failing to prevent Hezbollah from maintaining a presence and moving weapons and military equipment.

The army said its units began operations at the facility in December 2025 but suspended their work on March 16, 2026, following Israeli threats to strike the site.

According to the army, the suspension was requested by the committee overseeing the cessation of hostilities, which had been informed that weapons and ammunition remained inside the facility. Israel subsequently carried out a strike on the site.

The army said Israel repeatedly prevented it from resuming operations before work finally restarted on August 15, in coordination with the monitoring committee. The facility was cleared and permanently closed on October 16, it added.

The army also challenged Israeli footage purportedly showing Hezbollah transporting weapons from the facility. It said the video was filmed on July 3 near the southern town of Seddikine, shortly after a framework agreement was signed, and stressed that its actions had been fully documented by the monitoring committee.

Reaffirming its commitment to existing agreements, the army accused Israel of continuing to carry out attacks and violate Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli military spokesperson Ella Waweya accused the Lebanese army of failing to curb Hezbollah’s activities south of the Litani River, as required under the November 2024 ceasefire agreement.

Waweya claimed Hezbollah had continued operating at the Kfarra facility and had moved weapons and equipment from the site. She also released footage that she said showed the group transporting arms by truck.
