Jeffers and Hochstein to Chair Lebanon-Israel Ceasefire Monitoring Committee

Major General Jasper Jeffers, Commander of Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT), arrived in Beirut on Friday to co-chair the group overseeing the implementation and monitoring of the recently brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

The monitoring mechanism, led by the United States, includes representatives from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and France. This multilateral group is tasked with ensuring adherence to the ceasefire agreement that went into effect on November 26.

According to a statement issued by the U.S. Army Central Command, Jeffers will share the co-chair responsibilities with Amos Hochstein, the U.S. Senior Advisor to the President, who will serve in the civilian role until a permanent civilian official is appointed.

The group’s primary mission is to facilitate coordination between the parties involved and oversee the ceasefire agreement's implementation, which aims to stabilize the border area and prevent further escalations.
