Israel Accuses Hezbollah of Reconstructing Border Positions Under Civilian Cover

The Israeli military said on Saturday it has detected engineering equipment being used by Hezbollah to rebuild its military infrastructure in civilian areas of southern Lebanon, warning that such activity violates existing understandings between the two countries and would draw an immediate response.

In a post on X, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the military had recently detected “engineering equipment operated by Hezbollah elements” in several areas along the border. He accused the group of using civilian cover to restore its network of military positions that were damaged or destroyed in previous Israeli strikes.

“These activities are not limited to repairing homes, as Hezbollah claims,” Adraee said. “They are a key tool in restoring Hezbollah’s military network.”

Adraee added that Israeli forces were continuing to track the use of such equipment “to rebuild sites that were previously targeted,” underscoring Israel’s “commitment to protecting the State of Israel and its citizens, and to maintaining the security situation in accordance with the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

The spokesperson cautioned that any attempt by Hezbollah to reestablish its military infrastructure would be met with “an immediate and firm response,” saying the presence of bulldozers and other heavy machinery in the area had become “a clear indication of efforts to establish new positions using engineering tools in violation of the understandings.”
