Iran Proposes 10-Year Hezbollah Arms "Freeze" as Diplomatic Testing Begins

Iran has proposed a ten-year freeze of Hezbollah’s weapons as part of a preliminary framework it is pitching to the United States and Saudi Arabia, but no agreement has been reached and the offer remains only an Iranian initiative under discussion, according to information obtained by Nidaa Al-Watan.

Under the proposal, Hezbollah would suspend all military activity for a decade, withdraw fully from areas south of the Litani River, and adopt internal measures to restrain its armed cadres and limit any use of weapons inside Lebanon. During this period, the group would shift entirely to political work while negotiations continue on final, long-term arrangements for its arsenal.

Regardless of whether Iran’s proposal advances, the report suggests that an emerging diplomatic opening can be seen in Saudi Arabia’s recent measured engagement with Lebanon, which is deemed as part of a gradual, step-by-step approach to testing Tehran’s seriousness and credibility.
