The Hezbollah-affiliated Loyalty to the Resistance parliamentary bloc sharply criticized the Lebanese government’s endorsement of "American" demands, describing the recent move on arms control as a “clear violation” of Lebanon’s National Pact and a challenge to the Taif Agreement, which safeguards the country’s right to self-defense.
In a statement issued following its regular meeting, the bloc condemned what it called the government’s “suspicious and illogical haste” in embracing Washington’s agenda, asserting that such steps threaten Lebanon’s sovereignty and internal stability.
“The desperate attempts to undermine the weapons of the resistance amount to a free gift to the Israeli enemy and strip Lebanon of one of its most vital sources of strength, especially amid ongoing violations of Lebanese sovereignty and daily assassinations targeting civilians and resistance members,” the statement read.
The bloc warned that Lebanon and the wider region are entering one of the most critical and dangerous periods in their history, facing “existential threats to their composition, geography, security, economy, and peoples.” It attributed this precarious state to “Israeli aggression backed by unlimited American support, Western complicity, and collusion from certain Arab regimes.”
Domestically, the group accused some Lebanese political leaders of yielding to foreign pressures and American demands at the expense of Lebanon’s national interests and internal unity.
“The prime minister’s acceptance of the American envoy Tom Barrack’s proposal is clear proof that he has betrayed the commitments he made in his ministerial declaration and is fundamentally contradicting the oath taken by the president,” the statement said.
It added that a broad coalition—including Hezbollah, Amal, various political parties, figures from across sects and backgrounds, and a large segment of the Lebanese public—has expressed firm opposition to the government’s stance aimed at disarming the group.
“This effort to disarm Lebanon comes at a time of escalating aggression, with no viable alternative to defend the country or protect its people. The logic of guarantees has collapsed, as neither Arab nor international leaders have honored their commitments,” the statement noted.
The bloc called on the Lebanese government to “rectify the dangerous course it has taken by submitting to U.S. demands that serve Israeli interests and effectively place Lebanon under American tutelage.”
It urged the government to “restore national priorities above all else by mobilizing all available resources, particularly Lebanon’s currently dormant diplomatic corps, to compel Israel to comply with the ceasefire agreement, which Lebanon has fully implemented while Israel has ignored its obligations.”
Finally, the statement emphasized that developing a national security strategy to ensure Lebanon’s capacity to defend its territory and people remains paramount.
“The government must guarantee the protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and the safety and dignity of its citizens,” it concluded.
