A new study indicated that "sugar rush" is nothing but a myth, proving that excessive sugar eating worsens the mood rather than improve it.
Researchers from the University of Warwick, Humboldt University and Lancaster University have examined the effect of sugar on various aspects of mood in 31 studies involving almost 1300 adults.
The team discovered that sugar does not have any effect on the person’s mood regardless of the consumed amount, finding that it actually affects the behavior as people felt more tired and less alert.
"The idea that sugar can improve mood has been widely influential in popular culture, so much so that people all over the world consume sugary drinks to become more alert or combat fatigue. Our findings very clearly indicate that such claims are not substantiated, if anything, sugar will probably make you feel worse,” Dr Konstantinos Mantantzis, who led the study, explained.
