Hawat: Displacement Crisis Is Severe, We Have Become Hostages in Our Own Country

During Pascal Sleiman's funeral, MP Ziad Hawat stressed the importance of maintaining unity in Jbeil.

He stated that Lebanon must not allow discord to arise, emphasizing that even during the intense Lebanese Civil War, such divisions were not tolerated.

Hawat insisted on identifying Sleiman's killer promptly to prevent further tension, citing swift cooperation between Lebanese Forces and security agencies.

He attributed the crime to a culture of impunity and the widespread availability of illegal weapons.

Hawat urgently called for a resolution to the Syrian refugee crisis, lamenting that Lebanon's citizens have become hostages in their own country, potentially estranged from their homeland.

He characterized the issue as a clash between projects—one seeking Lebanon's preservation and the other endangering its stability.

Hawat stressed Lebanon's humanitarian efforts over 13 years, suggesting that Syrian refugees can now consider returning home.
