Hankach: Shouldn't the State Compensate Beirut Bast Victims Who Died Due to Inaction and Corruption?

Opposition ministers are demanding compensation for south residents as a result of a war that the Lebanese did not choose but was imposed by a party that kidnapped the state.

“Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati's advisors contacted me and confirmed that the matter has not been approved yet, but we have heard the statements issued on this subject by the opposition parties who emphasized that compensation is inevitable," said Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach.

"We are not against compensation for any Lebanese citizen who is affected, but at the same time, when the largest non-nuclear explosion occurred in Lebanon and more than 200 victims were killed as a result of the state's direct negligence and corruption, no one in the state paid attention to the families of the martyrs," Hankach said in an intervention on Voice of Lebanon radio station.

"We are all first-class citizens in this country and there is no one who is compensated and another who is not compensated, I will not refer back to the martyrs of March 14 or the martyrs of the Lebanese war," he added.

“It is interesting that the state has never acted this quickly which is excellent, but shouldn't the state compensate the victims of the Beirut Blast who were martyred due to state inaction and corruption in the port?" he asked.

"All we are saying is that there is a serious and real feeling that when the issue concerns a group of Lebanese who consider themselves "first-class citizens", everything is quick and easy,” Hankach concluded.
