Hankach Says Confrontation Will Take Place at All Levels

Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach pointed out that Lebanon had not witnessed such bad behaviour and conflicts between the people and the security forces since the Syrian tutelage over Lebanon, affirming that not accepting the opinions of others reminds Lebanese of the occupation.

“We went to see the Minister of Justice to discuss the Beirut port explosion case. We did not expect any attack on the deputies. Is this the level of Justice in Lebanon?” Hankach said in an interview with MTV.

“Public Prosecutor of Lebanon's Court of Cassation Ghassan Oueidat has not the authority to release the suspects detained in the connection with the explosion as he stepped down as the judge leading the inquiry into the 2020 Beirut port blast. Does he bear the responsibility if those who were released were actually involved in the port explosion?” he asked.

"The judiciary body is divided so is the legislative authority as a disruptive team, is unable to elect a president. The Lebanese army remains the guarantee for all the Lebanese," he added.

"We have roadmap for confrontation and justice, and Lebanon is facing a fateful test. The confrontation will take place at all levels, from the Parliament and the street. If the Lebanese judiciary does not rise up, we will resort to an international one," he affirmed.

When asked about the presidential elections, Hankach stressed that the Kataeb Party nominated Michel Mouawad for presidency as he has all the required specifications.

"With Michel Mouawad's candidacy, our conscience is clear. We will vote for any person in whom we see the possibility of breaking the presidential stalemate," he said.

"If we were waiting for an outside initiative, we would have obstructed like the others," he noted.

Hankach stressed the importance of electing a president, affirming that the deputies’ sit-in is a symbolic way to polarize public opinion and local and international media to put pressure on keeping the sessions open until the election of a president.
