In an interview with "Al-Hadath", Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach pointed out that Hezbollah does not want a president, saying that it is holding the decision of war and peace.
"Therefore, given the international community's initiatives through the "quintet," along with initiatives from the Progressive Socialist Party, the Free Patriotic Movement, and others, and considering House Speaker Nabih Berri's framework advocating dialogue followed by an election session, the Opposition MPs have taken the initiative today to prove that there is only one side obstructing the presidential elections," he said.
"Opposition actively participated with its candidate during the 13 presidential elections sessions, but in the final session, the other side disrupted the quorum to prevent the election of a president," he stated.
"We have set this initiative according to three scenarios, and it is up to the other side to seize this opportunity," Hankach emphasized.
He pointed out that "given the prevailing circumstances and the imminent danger facing Lebanon, the opposition MPs are once again taking the initiative to meet others halfway or more. The first was when they abandoned their candidate Michel Moawad, then intersected with the Free Patriotic Movement on the name of Jihad Azour."
"Yesterday, we met with the Quintet committee, and today we will start our meetings with all the blocs in the Parliament and then with Speaker Berri," he stated.
"The Quintet is a guarantor and facilitator of this process, and what the Lebanese want is the election of a president as soon as possible," he added.
Regarding the ongoing conflict in southern Lebanon, Hankach stressed: "We call on Hezbollah to stop provocations to avoid falling into the forbidden, and we reiterate that we have no guarantor but the Lebanese army to protect us."
He noted that there are efforts to conclude a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which will have repercussions on the southern front as "we have suffered significant losses and its people have been displaced."
He considered that" if the war expands, this country will not be able to rise again", emphasizing that the only solution is to stop this war.
