Hankach: No Room for Maneuvering on Hezbollah’s Disarmament

Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach stated that “the ceasefire agreement was approved by Hezbollah and drafted by Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. It was also endorsed by the government, including Hezbollah MPs. This agreement must be adhered to since they signed and accepted it in coordination with the U.S. envoy and Israel.”

He pointed out that the agreement is very clear on the issue of disarmament or limiting weapons to military forces, explicitly naming the only authorized entities permitted to bear arms within Lebanese territory.

In an interview with "This is Lebanon" , Hankach said: “This issue lies at the core of the agreement and leaves no room for manipulation or evasive tactics, as is often the case. With international attention and the presence of American and French mediators on the ground ensuring its implementation, there is an undeniable need for strict adherence to its provisions. A thorough review is being conducted to guarantee the agreement is properly upheld.”

He added: “Israel has begun withdrawing from the Al-Khiam area, with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) taking its place. This demonstrates the commitment of both sides to implementing UNSC Resolution 1701. Of particular importance to us is the disarmament of areas both above and below the Litani River. These zones must remain weapons-free. Our vision is for a Lebanon entirely free of unauthorized arms, and we will not accept any superficial fixes in this matter. The sweeping changes taking place across the region signal a new dawn, offering a chance to build a true future for the next generations. Our primary focus remains ensuring internal security in Lebanon.”

Hankach underscored that internal stability and security can only be achieved by consolidating all arms under the legitimate authority of the state and the LAF.
