Hankach: No One Can Bear Presidential Vacuum Not Even Those Disrupting Election Sessions

Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach noted that no one could bear the deadly presidential vacuum anymore not even those are disrupting the election sessions.

“Today, we are at a dangerous crossroads that threatens the fate and identity of Lebanon, and any step towards calling for a presidential election session is important. We, as opposition, must gather our strength to get out of the crisis that Lebanon is experiencing,” Hankach said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station.

He also noted that communication was ongoing with opposition forces to move forward with a candidate who can balance Hezbollah's candidate.

“We are also communicating with the Free Patriotic Movement and we must agree on an acceptable president to get out of the crisis,” he added.

In response to a question about the Arab summit, Hankach said: "We must decide our fate ourselves and not wait for ‘outsiders’ to build our country regardless of all external conflicts."

As for the return of Syria to the Arab League, he indicated: “We have four outstanding issues with the Syrian regime which are: knowing the fate of detainees in Syrian prisons, including our comrade Boutros Khawand, demarcation of borders, return of Syrian refugees, and implementation of arrest warrants against officials in the Syrian regime for their involvement in the bombings in Lebanon.”

“The Arab League must not ignore hese problems and cannot "at the stroke of a pen" restore its relations normally with Syria normally at a time when we are still suffering from problems with the Syrian regime, especially with the issue of Syrian refugees,” he concluded.
