Hankach from Washington: Quintet Committee Will Exert More Effort to Elect a President Acceptable to All Lebanese

The delegation of opposition MPs, who headed to Washington for talks with US officials and legislators, started discussing an array of Lebanese concerns, including the developments in the south in light of Gaza’s persisting war, the presidential elections and the Syrian refugee crisis.

Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach spoke to Voice of Lebanon radio station, saying, "We started our meetings today at the State Department where we met with officials responsible for the Lebanese file. The main topics discussed were ceasefire in the south, the Syrian refugee issue, and reforms."

"The main focus in all meetings and previous visits we conducted has been the presidential file. Therefore, the Biden administration is now convinced that it is impossible to solve Lebanon's pressing problems without electing a president," he added.

"In addition to the presidential deadlock and ways to overcome the crisis, we delved deeply into the pressure exerted by the Quintet committee to elect a president. The Biden administration is also convinced that no reforms can begin in Lebanon amid presidential vacuum," he noted.

"The Quintet committee will exert more effort to elect a president acceptable to all Lebanese," Hankach concluded.
