Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab Among Arab Labels on the Red Carpet of the Golden Globes 2020

The 77th annual Golden Globe Awards kicked off in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 5, bringing stars of the screen to The Beverly Hilton hotel to fete the year's best films and TV shows.

While French maisons such as Christian Dior, Chanel and Louis Vuitton were all represented on the red carpet, worn by the likes of Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie, designers from the region also had their moment in the spotlight.

Perennial red carpet favourite Elie Saab had a starring role, dressing Game of Thrones actress Rose Leslie for the ceremony.

The Scottish star wore an ornate emerald-green gown from the Lebanese couturier, which featured a square neckline, sheer skirt, and lashings of sequins and beads.

It's not the first time Leslie has turned to the label for important occasions; the actress also sported Saab when she wed co-star Kit Harington in 2018.

Red-carpet stalwart Zuhair Murad was also represented at this year's Golden Globes, thanks to Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis.

The voluminous black ballgown may have been simple in colour, but not style, with its dramatic full skirt and architectural off-shoulder cut.

Also turning to block colour was Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham, who donned a one-shoulder gown by Lebanon design duo Azzi & Osta.

The fiery scarlet number featured a sculpted silhouette, ruffled waist and knee-high split, with a fitted belt adding a touch of fifties flair.

Red was also the colour of the night for The Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham, who turned to Georges Hobeika for her fashion-forward gown.

With its cut-out bodice and fluid, almost balletic skirt, the statement design turned heads on the red carpet.

A trend-setting cut was also on the menu for Arrow actress – and friend of the Duchess of Sussex – Janina Gavankar, who sported a design by Beirut label Georges Chakra.

The black gown was given a twist with exaggerated, billowing sleeves in a contrasting azure hue.

Representing the men on the red carpet was Dubai's Michael Cinco, who made an appearance at the star-studded awards.

The designer, who hails from the Philippines, has dressed the likes of Aishwarya Rai and Jennifer Lopez, and wore a suit from his own menswear collection for the occasion.
