The fifth presidential election session ended with no change since a certain group insists on disrupting the country and coping with the presidential vacuum.
108 MPs participated in the first round of voting. Forty-four MPs voted for MP Michel Mouawad, who had received 39 votes in the fourth electoral session; 47 voted blank; six voted for professor and respected scholar Issam Khalifeh, one voted for ex-minister Ziad Baroud, one for Ziad Hayek, former secretary general for the privatization and partnerships council, seven voted for "The new Lebanon", one voted "For Lebanon", and one ballot containing "Plan B" was canceled.
After the "unproductive" fifth session MP Waddah Sadek in an exclusive interview with Kataeb.org pointed out that there were several violations of the Lebanese Constitution.
“Some legislators do not respect the Constitution and what the Lebanese people have entrusted to them in the parliamentary elections,” Sadek said.
He stressed that the legislator shall perform his duties and that it was not permissible for some to be irresponsible especially with presidential elections.
"Some MPs may have the right to miss sessions for reasonable causes, but it is not permissible for some to deliberately boycott such sessions, and this is an insult to the Constitution, the voters, and the country that is collapsing,” he added.
Sadek stressed that all opposition forces must name their candidate in a bid to reach balance and good communication among all parties.
“There are approximately 50 MPs who chose and voted for MP Michel Mouawad, and the rest of the MPs are not yet able to agree on a name,” he explained.
In response to a question about his vote for MP Michel Mouawad in Thursday’s session, Sadek stated: “I voted to Mouawad who is a political ally.since my first day in Parliament, I insisted on naming Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel, MP Michel Mouawad and MP Nehmat Frem, as they are clear and natural candidates.”
Sadek finally indicated that when it was agreed upon Michel Mouawad he waited for the opinion of Change Bloc, but when it refused to name Mouawad, he took the decision to leave it and vote for the latter.
