European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra De Waele, congratulated Lebanon on the election of General Joseph Aoun as the country's new president, praising the latter's inaugural speech.
"Very encouraging statements by President Joseph Aoun – responsibility towards future generations, unity across sects, reforms, and state monopoly over arms," De Waele wrote on her X account.
"We look forward to the swift formation of a government as a next step. The EU is ready to support," she added.
